IRS Notice: Estate Tax Return Must Be Filed for Surviving Spouse to Claim Unused Exemption
IRS has reminded estates of married taxpayers dying after 2010 that estate tax return must be filed in order to pass along unused exclusion amount to surviving spouses. Details and instructions are provided in Notice 2011-82.
